Wissota Late Model Challenge Series
Zimpel Wires Challenge Series Field for Wednesday WISSOTA 100 Win
The 2025 Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series powered by Momentum Truck Group, Freightliner, Western Star and driven by Minnesota Truck Headquarters wrapped up it’s largest season ever at the I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minnesota for the opening two nights of the Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 and saw Braham, Minnesota’s Josh Zimpel best a stout field of 48 WISSOTA Late Models to win the 40-lap feature by leading flag to flag to get his second career series victory.
The night began with Shane Sabraski setting fast time with a lap of 16.195 seconds around the clay oval, while Lee Grosz, Zach Johnson, Travis Saurer, Tyler Peterson and Dave Mass topped the five qualifying heat races early in the night’s program. Johnny Broking and Jeff Provinzino won the night’s b-mains to set the 25-car feature starting lineup.
Tyler Peterson and Josh Zimpel earned the front row for the night’s $3,000 to win, 40-lap feature event with Zimpel getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the field into turn number one and lead the opening lap.
As Zimpel tried to escape from the field early, Chad Becker suffered a mechanical issue on the opening lap, restacking the field for a second try on the start. On the next start, Zimpel got out front again and tried to disappear from the field.
The first eleven laps ran with Zimpel chased hard by Peterson out front, while Zach Johnson, Dave Mass and Travis Saurer were racing hard for third. The caution flew on lap 12 for a Mars flat tire in turn four.
On the restart, Zimpel took back off with Peterson in tow. Shane Sabraski and Cole Searing were working their way forward as the race hit the midpoint, while traffic became a factor for the leaders out front. Laps clicked off until a pair of lap 28 and 29 cautions, which kept the field tight for the final ten circuits.
Zimpel took back off out front with eleven to go, with just one more caution flying on lap 31, setting up a 9-lap dash to the checkered.
The final restart saw Zimpel take off one more time with Peterson doing everything he could to try to pry the lead away from the race long leader. Sabraski and Searing were in a great battle for third just behind as Dave Mass worked into the top five toward the end as well.
Zimpel was up to the challenge and held off Peterson to race to his second career Challenge Series victory for his efforts. Following Zimpel and Peterson to the line were Sabraski in third, with Searing and Mass in the top five.
Ryan Gierke won the WISSOTA Modified feature, while Dylan Nelson won the WISSOTA Super Stock main. Kolton Brauer won the WISSOTA Street Stock feature and Matt Schow won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature as well to round out the night.
